What is Nanny Sharing?
The most common type of Nanny Sharing in Australia is simultaneous sharing where a Nanny can work for two or more families (at the same time) caring for the children in one home. Alternatively a Nanny can work for two or more families on alternate days (ie Nanny Splitting). Simultaneous Nanny Sharing delivers significant cost savings to each family
Consider this example: A Nanny is usually paid approximately $20 per hour. Two partner families each agree to pay $12 per hour. That way, each family saves $8 per hour, and the Nanny receives a total of $24 per hour. A win-win scenario. Across an eight hour day this equates to a payment of $96 per day per family, with a saving of $64 per day per family versus sole employment of a Nanny. Of course, this hourly rate depends on where you live.
Nanny sharing not only provides financial benefits, in addition children are cared for in an environment that is socially stimulating and relaxing. Your children will have the best of both worlds - almost individual care, but with other children for play and company. Parent's homes reduce the risk of communicable viruses and parents travel less often to pick up or deliver their child/ren from day care. Additionally, Nannies usually stay in their positions longer because they are paid more overall in a sharing arrangement.
A shared Nanny expects to earn an hourly rate towards the higher end of the typical pay scale when they are working for two or more families at the same time. Obviously that equates to a reduction in the full cost of a Nanny if you were to be the sole employer.
